Fable All Dressed Up for Halloween

This year for Halloween, Fable, one of Vancouvers most beloved restaurants, really thought outside the box.

Known for its success at delivering consistent, top-notch food in manner that is about as unpretentious as you can get, Fable transformed itself into a fine-dining space for the night and (hilariously) called itself "Fablé".

The theme of the evening was Circa 1960's and everything, from the menu to the chef whites (tall hats and all!) transported you right back there.  They really went all out!

The food (as always) was awesome and, perhaps even more impressively, was how the staff jumped right into their roles as fine dining chefs and servers.  It was obviously a busy night for everyone (the event was pretty much sold out) and the staff somehow maintained the gracious and friendly service that Fable is known for while hustling about.  Quite a feat, but they nailed it.

The menu was a set 6-course dinner (pescatarian substitutions were very graciously offered at my request), crafted in true 1960's style with dishes that were flashes from the past.  Wine pairings were also available, courtesy of General Manager/Sommelier Chase MacLeod,  and were all spot-on.  At around $100/person for the dinner + pairings, this ended up being cheaper than buying a costume going out for a few Halloween drinks!

Here is a look at the mighty fine food we enjoyed at "Fablé":

Oyster with mignonette/horseradish

Duck Liver Terrine with Quince Paste

Beetroot Carpaccio (pescatarian substitution)

Lobster and Butternut Squash Bisque with Lobster Salad and Tarragon Cream

Halibut with Beurre Rouge, Leeks and Potatoes

Beef Stiletto Wellington with Creamed Spinach and Mushroom Duxelles

Salmon with Gnocchi and Squash Puree

Baked Alaska with London Fog Ice Cream

Bravo Trevor Bird and team for having the courage to try something new.  It was clear from all the smiles in the room that guests (including us!) had a blast.  While you may be able to dress the place up and give it a new name for a night, you can never change what Fable is at its core- a comfortable, approachable space to enjoy some of the best food in the city.

Thanks for the most memorable Halloween a foodie could ever ask for:)
